San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum (SDCDM) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization providing hands-on educational exhibits, programs and mobile museums that focuses on science, technology, reading, art, math and world cultures for over 100,000+ visitors annually including children, families and school groups.

Our mission at SDCDM is to spark a love of learning so all children can discover their wildest dreams and as an organization, we are deeply committed to creating an inclusive space where all individuals are treated with respect and dignity. We are seeking a visionary and creative leader to join us as Chief Executive Officer, guiding our mission and driving positive impact in the lives of children and the community we serve.

1. Visionary Leadership

Develop, monitor, and implement the Museum's strategic plan, continually seeking creative and entrepreneurial growth opportunities.

Challenge and inspire staff and the Board to partake in a compelling vision that energizes and engages all stakeholders.

Explore and evaluate opportunities that align with the Museum's mission, including strategic partnerships and funding opportunities for community- wide systemic change efforts.

2. Impact Strategies and Relationship Building

Cultivate and manage productive relationships with Board Members, leveraging their expertise to support the Museum's mission.

Work closely with the Director of Advancement to foster positive relationships with key funders, philanthropic foundations, corporate partners/sponsors, state agencies, and potential individual donors to expand the Museum’s services in the community.

Collaborate with the Director of Education to define and implement a progressive and unique educational philosophy that sets the Museum apart. Collaborate with Director of Marketing to oversee marketing and public relations initiatives to amplify the Museum’s brand within the community.

Navigate the local political environment ethically and effectively, aligning strategies to accomplish goals.

3. Business Acumen

Administer the Museum’s budget through monitoring daily financial operations, and working closely with the Chief Operating Officer, Board Treasurer, Finance Committee, and accounting staff.

Provide oversight and support for human resource functions led by the COO.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $140,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
