Bayview Hunters Point Foundation has been at the heart of social justice for over 50 years, providing support services for predominantly low-income people of color in Bayview and throughout San Francisco.

Our mission is to build a community that is empowered, clean, safe, and healthy. We are focused on multidisciplinary, community-informed support for our clients, addressing the root causes of unemployment and homelessness, and advocating for the basic human rights of food, health, economic, and housing security.

 


Today, BVHPF's nearly 200 employees serve over 5,000 disadvantaged clients each year. Our programs include:

  • Mental health counseling for youth and adults
  • School-based mental health services
  • Substance abuse counseling and methadone treatment
  • Family transitional and supportive housing
  • Rapid rehousing and flex pool housing programs
  • Case management services at several homeless and housing programs
  • Bayview SAFE Navigation Center

 


Position Overview:

 

 

The Staff Development Director assumes a crucial role in planning, organizing, and directing comprehensive training and educational programs within our facility. This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and evaluating training initiatives that support staff development, uphold compliance standards, and enhance the overall quality of our services. Staff Development Director collaborates with various departments, external partners, and organizations to ensure that training programs are aligned with our mission and objectives



  • Plan, develop, direct, evaluate, and coordinate educational and on-the-job training programs. Incorporate commercially produced instruction material and training aids into existing in-service programs as deemed necessary.
  • Provide leadership in formulating the goals and objectives of the in-service educational programs of this facility.
  • Develop, evaluate, and control the quality of Relias educational/training/compliance programs in accordance with established policies and procedures. Secure, develop, and maintain records, reports, instructional manuals, reference materials, etc., pertinent to training/educational programs.
  • Perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms, reports, class attendance subject records, etc.
  • Make written and oral reports/recommendations to the administrator concerning in-service training programs.
  • Assume the authority, responsibility, and accountability of directing the training/ educational programs. Work with the facility's consultants as necessary and implement recommended changes as required. Assist department directors in obtaining and scheduling speakers to present in-service training programs.
  • Ensure educational/ training classrooms/virtual meeting rooms or areas are properly prepared before training classes begin.
  • Delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to other personnel.
  • Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished.
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Team in developing and implementing a quality assurance program for in-service training.
  • Develop, direct, and schedule refresher training, as necessary, for assigned staff and licensed professional personnel.
  • Remain current on new developments by attending professional institutions, reading professional journals, and attending professional seminars.
  • Attend and participate in your professional association's activities and programs, etc., to assure that you keep abreast of current regulations and guidelines, as well as professional standards, and make recommendations on changes in policies and procedures to the administrator.
  • Develop and participate in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of orientation programs that orient newly hired personnel to their position, the facility's policies and procedures, resident rights and responsibilities, etc.
  • Assist licensed nursing personnel (i.e., RNs, LPNs, and Nurse Aides) in obtaining in-service training to keep their license current in accordance with state law. Provide in-service training as necessary/required.
  • Collaborate in developing the Nurse Aide Training curriculum used by the facility. Submit to the state agency as required.
  • Ensure that all personnel attends and participate in annual OSHA and CDC in-service training programs for hazard communication, TB management, and bloodborne pathogens standards.
  • Participate and assist in departmental studies and projects as assigned or that may become necessary.
  • Assist in the development of the in-service training budget.
  • Ensure that copies of lesson plans, instructor's qualifications, etc., are filed in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures.
  • Meet/collaborate with department supervisors, on a regularly scheduled basis, solicit advice concerning their training needs, and assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.
    • Implement recommendations from the Quality Assurance Team as they relate to the educational needs of the facility.
  • Other duties and tasks as deemed necessary and appropriate.

Personnel Functions

  • Develop and direct orientation programs for all personnel, in accordance with our established policies and procedures.
  • Conduct regular or special in-service/educational training sessions for staff to ensure they remain current on new procedures, changes in policies, etc.
  • Coordinate in-service activities and programs with all departments in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Encourage personnel to get involved in planning programs, trying new ideas, etc., to enhance our educational in-service programs.
  • Maintain a productive working relationship with external partners and organizations.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the department.
  • Promote the morale of all personnel and maintain a spirit of cooperation.
  • Assist in setting standards for department personnel. Create and facilitate an organization-wide performance evaluation cycle and interactive process.
  • Ensure that individual employee training records are maintained and filed in the employee's personnel records.
  • Schedule in-service training programs according to the needs of each department and post notices of in-service training classes in accordance with the facility's policies and procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Works in office areas, training rooms, resident rooms, exam rooms, etc., as necessary.
  • Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to stay abreast of changes in your profession, as well as to maintain your license on a current status.
  • May work flexible hours.

Minimum Requirements and Experience

  • Must possess, as a minimum BS or MS diploma in nursing or related field.
  • Must have, as a minimum, 5 years (s) experience in a health-related facility.
  • Must have 3 years of experience in supervision and principles, the practice of teaching, etc.
  • Must possess skills in leadership and communication.
  • Must possess creativity, integrity, and initiative.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing training practices.
  • Must possess the ability to plan and develop new programs.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as the willingness to handle difficult situations.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to lift fifty (25) pounds
  • Valid California Driver's License (if job functions require)
  • Ability to go up and down stairs with no limitations
  • Ability to sit and/or stand for significant periods of time
  • Able to meet required state, federal, local, and BVHP standards (including, but not limited to) a comprehensive background screening and depending on the position, Live Scan fingerprinting clearance
  • First two Covid-19 vaccinations of (Moderna or Pfizer) or one dose of Johnson & Johnson

Compensation and Bonus Package:
