What we want

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will craft sophisticated spatial models, dissect extensive geo-spatial datasets, and utilize Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools to tackle intricate urban issues. The individual selected for this position will use large mobility data, human-environment interaction, and 3D simulation, while working in a collaborative interdisciplinary unit. The ideal applicant will have a PhD in GIS, Computer Science, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering or other related discipline with two or more years’ experience in the following areas: geographic information systems, remote sensing, natural language processing, computer vision, data mining, optimization, and/or urban simulation. Salary: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.

Required Education

  • Appropriate PhD.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge in implementation of open-source geo-spatial platforms involving big-data, visualization, machine learning, statistics, and modeling.

  • Strong communication skills both written and oral.

  • Strong programming knowledge with Java, Python, R, and web based spatial tools.

  • Working knowledge with parallel and distributed computing software and hardware architectures.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • PhD in GIS, Computer Science, Urban Planning, Civil Engineering or other related discipline.

  • Two or more years’ experience in the following areas: geographic information systems, remote sensing, natural language processing, computer vision, data mining, optimization, and/or urban simulation.

  • Strong background in artificial intelligence and spatial data analytics.

  • Publication Record: A record of published research in peer-reviewed journals related to transportation and/or urban sustainability.

  • Industry Experience: Previous involvement in collaborative projects with urban planning agencies, transportation organizations, and/or sustainability initiatives.

Essential Duties/Tasks

  • Project Research, Coordination & Enhancement - Work with team of interdisciplinary researchers to capture, understand, integrate, and implement their requirements in developed algorithms for urban sustainability and mobility model, as well as contribute to publications and grant writing. Conduct urban computing research with a strong emphasis on algorithm development, prototyping, and validation. Optimize algorithm prototypes to scalable, parallelized, and robust implementations and may perform other duties as assigned.
