Position Summary:


Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Assistant Nurse Manager for the Clinical Call Center at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
Under the direction of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager, supervises clinical staff and directs all daily operations. Performs clinical, administrative and supervisory duties for the department. Prepares works schedules, approves and monitors requested time off for clinical staff to ensure adequate coverage at all times. Oversees training and ensures all staff have current clinical competencies, licensure and certifications. Works with staff to ensure Joint Commission readiness. Acts as a role model/mentor for all clinical staff. Participates in RWJMS committees in leadership roles. Guides the development and implementation of performance improvement projects for clinical areas. Serves as a subject matter expert for clinical questions. 
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
  • Directly supervises staff during clinic hours. Ensures that all clinical staff adhere to RHG policies and procedures. 
  • Proactive engagement and anticipation of clinical faculty needs. Meets regularly with all faculty to develop a smooth and efficient process in the ambulatory setting.
  • Work collaboratively with Practice Manager to ensure all clinical supplies are ordered timely and efficiently. Ensures all supplies are stored and rotated by date to avoid any waste. 
  • Directly works with Nurse Manager and Director of Quality, Safety & Patient Experience to ensure all Joint Commission standards are met. 
  • Responsible for ensuring all high-level disinfection, autoclave, and infection control policies and procedures are strictly enforced and maintained. 
  • Works alongside the virtual call center program administrator to oversee daily patient call volumes. Ensures telephone triage is effectively managed and staff function within their NJ Scope of Practice Acts.

Minimum Education and Experience:

  • A minimum of two (2) years of progressively more responsible nursing experience with one (1) year in a position requiring general medical/surgical nursing skills, preferably in an outpatient setting required. 
  • A minimum of two (2) years of ambulatory nursing skills, with managerial/supervisory experience preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Physical Demands: Position requires standing to 2/3 time, walking to 2/3 the time, requires sitting to 2/3 of the time. Must be able to assist patients. No special vision requirements. Must be able to lift and store supplies as needed, up to 25 lbs.  
  • Work Environment: Moderate noise environment with some exposure to blood borne or respiratory pathogens requiring the use of personal protective equipment; some potential exposure to hazardous waste. Clinical Office setting.
