Summary of Job Duties:

The Post Doctoral Fellow will establish, maintain and oversee specific experiments for a new research project developing a model of menopause in mice. The objectives include determination of the role that estrogen plays in maintaining cognitive function in the face of obesity and other dietary consequences. He/She will contribute to mouse husbandry, treatments, and collection of tissues. He/she will also maintain records of all data collected and assist in compilation, tabulation, analysis, and narrative reporting of results, train new lab personnel and teach new science techniques. The Post Doc Fellow will contribute to monitoring inventory of supplies for his/her own projects.

Qualifications:

Works in cooperation with the supervisor to maintain records of all tests and data collected, assists with research design, as well as compilation and analysis of data

Write initial draft of manuscripts and/or poster presentations reporting research results

Meet and discuss research findings with other laboratory personnel

Supervise and train new lab personnel

Other duties as assigned.

Required:

Ph.D. in Neuroscience or psychology


Technical: rodent handling (injections, euthanasia); behavioral assessment (mazes, etc.)
Conceptual: physiology and endocrinology

Preferred:

B.A. or B.S. in biology or related field
Ph.D. in neuroscience
Minimum of 1-year experience as a Post Doc
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Graduate Research Assistant or equivalent. 

Practical training in behavioral assessments of learning and memory
Technical: learning and memory assessment in mice (mazes, etc.); implementation of timed-release drug delivery vehicles
Conceptual: ovarian hormones and menopause; diet-induced obesity; glucose metabolism
