University of Central Florida

Job Description

Unleash Your Potential With Us

As a next-generation public research institution, we are an inclusive community of thinkers, doers, creators, innovators, healers, and leaders striving to shape the future and solve the world’s most challenging problems.  No matter what your role is, when you join Knight Nation, you become an integral part of our mission to become a university for the future.  You’ll be met with opportunities to connect and collaborate with uniquely talented faculty, staff, and students across 13 colleges and multiple campuses and regional locations.  That means greater challenges to tackle, more meaningful opportunities to grow, and rewarding experiences that go beyond a paycheck.

The Opportunity

The Department of Economics, located in the College of Business at the University of Central Florida (UCF), seeks to fill a lecturer position.  This is a nine-month, non-tenure-earning position with an anticipated start date of August 8, 2024.

The primary teaching assignment will be the Principles of Macroeconomics course, which is an integral part of the UCF General Education Program and is also required of all business under-graduates.  As part of the college common core curriculum, Principles of Macroeconomics is taught in a large section using a non-traditional blended modality known as REAL—relevant engaged active learning—which incorporates on-line and face-to-face instruction in smaller (though still sizeable) sections.  The face-to-face sections employ team-based active learning.

The position also entails teaching two additional courses per semester, which might be undergraduate courses in the Department of Economics or master’s level courses in the MBA program, as well as a service component.  The job requires teaching a section of Principles of Macroeconomics during a 6-week summer session as well.  Candidates who are actively engaged in research may receive a small reduction in the 9-month teaching load.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. in Economics from an accredited institution by August 8, 2024 is required.

  • Applicants must also be academically qualified under AACSB standards to teach at both the master's and undergraduate level.

  • A minimum of two years of full-time university teaching experience, or the equivalent part-time experience.

  • A sustained commitment to teach large classes in a non-traditional setting is a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in successfully teaching a range of upper division courses in economics.

  • Experience teaching MBA courses.

  • Five or more years of full-time university teaching experience.

  • Experience teaching large classes.

  • Experience teaching by way of various modalities.

  • A promising research agenda.

Additional Application Materials Required:

UCF requires all applications and supporting documents be submitted electronically through the Human Resources employment opportunities website, https://www.ucf.edu/jobs/ .  In addition to the online application, applicants must also submit (1) a cover letter that addresses how the minimum and preferred qualifications are met, (2) a curriculum vitae, (3) the names of three individuals who may be asked to provide a professional letter of reference, and (4) evidence of teaching effectiveness.

The selected candidate will be required to submit official transcripts (and, as applicable, U.S. degree equivalency evaluations) documenting the conferral of their qualifying academic credentials.

NOTE:  Please have all documents ready when applying so they can be simultaneously uploaded. Once the online submission process is finalized, the system does not allow applicants to submit additional documents later.

Consideration of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is closed.
