Summary of Job Duties:

The Post Doctoral Research Scholar will be responsible for working closely with the Assistant Professor in the Exercise Science Department at the Molecular Muscle Mass Regulation Laboratory and serving as the primary mentor and collaborators in overseeing successful completion of research projects as outlined in NIA research grant 1R01AG080047, performing research experiments with models of in vivo and in vitro gene manipulation and murine exercise, and completing tissue sample analysis that includes, but is not limited to, mitochondrial respiration and ROS emission, muscle function, Western blotting, RT-PCR, muscle protein fractional synthesis rates by deuterium oxide labeling, histology, cell/nuclear sorting and DNA/RNA isolation, and bulk/single cells/single nucleus RNA-sequencing. The duties for this position also include tissue culture experiments and maintenance of required cell lines, bioinformatics, the preparation and submission of research manuscripts, assisting in the writing of as well as the writing of external research and fellowship grant applications, and dissemination of findings at relevant seminars/conferences.
Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Exercise Science, Biology, Physiology, Bioinformatics, or other related field conferred by start date

  • Demonstrated potential to publish in high quality journals and present at national/international conferences

  • Demonstrated familiarity with molecular laboratory techniques

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with and handling transgenic animals

  • Experience with animal physiology and/or molecular biology techniques which may include: muscle contractile function, cell culture and transfection, single cell -omics, and mitochondrial respiration

  • Experience with bioinformatics

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work well in a multi-PI, multi-trainee environment as part of a team

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (KSAs):

  • Knowledge of molecular biology techniques

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work with laboratory animals

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and follow laboratory protocols

  • Ability to disseminate research findings in manuscript form and orally in seminars and scientific conferences


Additional Information:

This position is renewable annually based on continued need for the position, availability of funding, and satisfactory job performance.
