Summary of Job Duties:

The postdoctoral fellow should have a Ph.D in chemistry or a related discipline. The successful candidate is expected to have demonstrated experience in the design and execution of experiments related to single molecule biophysics, particularly using single molecule fluorescence techniques, evidenced by publication in peer-reviewed journals. Preference will be given to candidates who also have experience in recombinant protein expression, purification and fluorescence labeling. Additional experience in one or more of the following areas is also preferred: site-directed mutagenesis of proteins; analysis of single molecule fluorescence data, such as FRET, FCS, Hidden Markovian Modeling, changepoint analysis, auto-/cross-correlation, and/or other statistical methods; experience in transgenic plant biology; skills in mentoring students and in lab management; excellent written and oral communication skills.
The initial appointment will be for 1-year, which can be renewed yearly depending on the availability of funding and a continued satisfactory level of performance in the role. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others. Travel to professional conferences to present research is also expected and encouraged.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in fluorescence spectroscopy

  • Experience in single molecule spectroscopy or imaging

  • Experience in recombinant protein expression, purification and fluorescence labeling

  • Experience in site-directed mutagenesis of proteins

  • Experience in analysis of single molecule fluorescence data, such as FRET, FCS, Hidden Markovian Modeling, changepoint analysis, auto-/cross-correlation or other statistical methods

  • Experience in transgenic plant biology

  • Demonstrated skills in mentoring students and in lab management

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
