Assistant Professor - Business Administration-Accounting - FT

Job Description

Mount Mary University seeks a dynamic individual to contribute to the realization of our Mission through the role of a tenure-track faculty position in the School of Arts and Sciences at the Assistant Professor level starting in either January 2024 or August 2024. Faculty hire will teach undergraduate courses to business administration majors, human resources majors, accounting majors, and department minors. The hire will also work closely with the division chair and school dean to innovate course delivery methods and develop new programs to grow enrollment. We are a community of faculty who value relationships with our students and colleagues. The School of Arts and Sciences is interested in academically qualified candidates who will make significant contributions in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach a full-time, 12 credit hours per semester teaching load of both day and evening classes
  • Demonstrate effective, student-centered teaching across a range of course offerings from introductory to upper level
  • Teach a variety of course delivery formats including in-person, hybrid, and online
  • Mentor students as a faculty advisor
  • Support the division chair and dean in developing and revising the curriculum
  • Serve on Faculty Assembly and other University committees
  • Serve on the Advisory Board, an active group of industry professionals committed to programs in the Business and Communication Division
  • Engage in ongoing scholarship and professional development (publications in peer-reviewed academic journals, academic conference presentations)
  • Manifest a commitment to the mission of Mount Mary University and participate in Mount Mary events and activities
  • Provide service to the greater community
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Skills and Experience

  • PhD or DBA in business-related field is preferred; terminal degree (MBA or related graduate degree) is required.
  • A minimum of three years of teaching experience in higher education required. Additional professional experience is desirable.
  • Expertise in one of two fields: human resources (HR) and management 1 or accounting and finance 2

1 HR and management specialists: industry certifications and significant relevant professional experience outside of academia are highly desirable; ability to teach a range of HR courses (introductory human resources, talent acquisition, training and development, compensation and benefits, staffing, employee and labor relations, and diversity, equity and inclusion) as well as management courses (principles of management, strategic management, and international business) is required.

2 Accounting or finance specialists: Current CPA, CMA, or CFA license, significant relevant professional experience outside of academia, and knowledge of QuickBooks software are highly desirable; ability to teach a range of accounting and finance courses (financial accounting, managerial accounting, intermediate accounting, cost accounting, tax accounting, advanced accounting, accounting information systems, auditing, and principles of finance) is required.

  • Previous experience teaching a diverse student body is desired
  • Embraces student centricity and diversity
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others
  • Excellent writing, communication, and Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Exhibits professionalism, integrity and ethics at all times
  • Willingness to promote the business and communication division programs to prospective students and to the greater Milwaukee community
