The department has 21 tenure-stream and 2 lecturer-stream faculty members. We have a departmental postdoctoral program, which funds 5 postdoctoral fellows at any given time, an excellent graduate program, and a strong undergraduate culture. Department members frequently take advantage of Brown's interdisciplinary culture via collaborations with many other Brown units including Biology and Biomedicine, Brain Sciences & Neuroscience, Cognitive Linguistic and Psychological Sciences, Computational Biology, Engineering, Geosciences, Mathematics, Physics, and Public Health. We are also a founding partner of Brown’s Data Science Initiative and participate in the NSF-funded Institute for Computational and Experimental Research in Mathematics.

Brown University is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic global community; as an EEO/AA employer, Brown University provides equal opportunity and prohibits discrimination, harassment and retaliation based upon a person’s race, color, religion, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, or any other characteristic protected under applicable law, and caste, which is protected by our University policies. The Division of Applied Mathematics similarly values diversity and inclusion as essential to achieving excellence and is committed to building a diverse faculty: we strongly encourage women, members of underrepresented minorities, and those who can contribute to the excellence, diversity, and inclusivity of our academic community to apply. We ask candidates to outline any relevant experience, including work with diverse constituents, and plans in their applications. (For additional information about the university's and department's commitment to diversity and inclusion, see http://www.brown.edu/about/administration/institutional-diversity/pathways and https://appliedmath.brown.edu/community .)

Applicants must have completed all requirements for the doctoral degree by the start of the position and have a strong record of or exceptional promise for research and a commitment to effective teaching in a diverse and inclusive classroom.

Applicants should submit a cover letter, a CV, a research statement, and a teaching statement. Please also provide a diversity statement (which can be part of the teaching statement), in which you summarize your past and planned contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion. These contributions may arise from teaching/mentoring, outreach, lived experience, or other activities. Applicants should also arrange for at least three letters of reference to be submitted through the application website, with at least one letter addressing the applicant's teaching experience or potential.

Consideration of applications will begin on November 6, 2023. Inquiries should be sent electronically to Prof Yan Guo (yan_guo@brown.edu).
