Summary of Job Duties:
The Post-Doctoral Fellow position will perform experiments relating to virology, immunology, cancer biology, and small animal pathogenesis. He or she will be responsible for growth of mammalian cells, bacteria, and viruses.
Qualifications:
Ph.D., M.D, or D.V.M. in life sciences emphasis in microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, and/or cancer biology or related field required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
At least 4 years of experience in laboratory training that include cloning, PCR/RT-PCR, western blot, aseptic mammalian cell culture handling, and/or experience with small animal models of disease.
Techniques in molecular biology, cell biology, and immunology.
Good communication skills including communicating with others, presenting scientific findings at scientific conferences, and writing scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.
Preferred Qualifications:
More than 2 years of laboratory experience in immunologic analyses of microbial infections, such as B cell and T cell analyses using flow cytometry, ELISA, and ELISpot techniques.
Expertise in microbiology and genetics, and proficient with molecular biology techniques. Good publication record.
Additional Information:
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research to understand the host response to viral infections using molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and immunological methods including, but not limited to, flow cytometry, ELISA, western blotting, immunoprecipitation, molecular genetic techniques, and DNA and plasmid preparation and transformation.
Perform infections of mice with viruses and parasites.
Perform tissue isolations for histology, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry analysis.
Help write scientific manuscripts and grant proposals by supplying information pertaining to experiments undertaken as described and composing initial manuscript drafts.
Reading scientific literature to design new experiments.
Develop new research skills that strengthen his/her independent research ability.
Organize and oversee daily operations of the laboratory, including: ordering supplies and small equipment, maintaining, chemical inventories, entering computerized data, and performing routine chemical and instrumental safety checks.
Help train graduate students, other postdoctoral researchers, technicians, and any temporary undergraduate students that enter the lab.
May perform other duties as assigned.
