The Ohio State University invites applications for a postdoctoral research position focused on perennial grain cropping systems in Ohio. As part of two USDA-funded projects, this position will bridge organic and non-organic field research with environmental and enterprise budget data from several field sites located across the US. The main crop of interest is Kernza, a perennial grain crop that is actively being bred for both grain and forage. The initial appointment is for 1 year and renewable based on satisfactory job performance.

Responsibilities:

- Collate, analyze and synthesize data from several established field experiments.

- Evaluate and quantify the environmental (climate and soil) and agronomic drivers of perennial grain crop performance.

- Evaluate the relationship of soil health and nutrient budgets with crop performance and environmental quality in perennial grain crop systems.

- Create enterprise budgets for modalities of perennial grain crop systems, including dual-use for grain and forage; nutrient (N, P, and K) input source, time, and rates; manure amendment; and legume intercropping.

- Write scholarly journal articles reporting main findings of field experiments.

- Play collaborative role in coordinating research efforts across multiple states and institutions

- Contribute to on-farm research efforts to engage with producers.

- Help with management and maintenance of perennial grain crops field experiments

Position Requirements:

- Ph.D. in ecology, agronomy, soil science or related field.

- Demonstrated experience with statistical analysis and publication of field-based datasets.

- Ability to travel at state level to conduct experiments and engage with stakeholders, and nationally to participate in conferences and meetings.

Position Preferences:

- Preference for candidates with experience running field experiments
