Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Library Assistant II. The Library Assistant II will be responsible for the following and not limited to:
  • Provision of circulation services on weeknights
  • Supervision of the law library during Saturday and Sunday evening shifts.
  • Reports to Evening Supervisor.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Requires a high school/vocational school education and three years of general library, library-related, or clerical experience. 
  • Two years of college study and one year of library, database management, or information systems experience may be substituted for the three years of library experience requirement. 
  • Requires accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a diverse and multicultural work environment. 
  • Requires the ability to record and maintain data in computerized and non-computerized formats. 
  • Must have effective client service skills. 
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds and push book trucks. 
  • May require specialist proficiencies and/or the ability to group lead.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Requires working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Experience with library catalog software and digital scanning programs is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
Equipment Utilized
  • Integrated Library System software (ALMA);
  • Computerized library catalog and patron user database
  • Enables barcode based borrowing and returns, searches to determine latest or most recent books and journals owned or expected by library
  • Familiarity with scanning and optical character recognition (OCR) software.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Must have effective client service skills
  • Must be able to lift and move up to 30 pounds and push book trucks
  • Physical actions include pushing full book trucks, and possibly chairs, or library furniture
  • Shelving books on shelves as high as 7ft. and as low as 4 inches
  • Attention to detail required
  • Interruptions are common
  • Multiple users awaiting service can cause stress
  • Familiarity with legal publications
  • Experience in a public service position

Immunization Requirements
