Job Description

The Maj-Linda Selenica’s laboratory in the Sanders-Brown Center of Aging, Departments of Biochemistry at University of Kentucky is currently looking for highly skilled and motivated molecular and cell biologists to be the drivers of our efforts to unravel mechanisms contributing to the TDP-43 pathology of limbic-predominant age-related TDP-43 encephalopathy (LATE) and other Alzheimer’s Disease Related Dementias (ADRD). Core areas of focus will be understanding the role of citrullination and other PTMs in the TDP-43 protein structure, biology, and pathology  into both in vitro (induced pluripotent stem cell models) and in vivo systems (mouse models) to understand the clinical outcomes of TDP-43 pathogenesis in LATE and ADRD. Our lab concentrates on identifying the role of citrullination in recombinant TDP-43 liquid-liquid phase separation and aggregation kinetics (ThT, TEM, FRAP) and dissecting the molecular, cellular, and tissue-level mechanisms by which this PTM and the associated enzymes (e.g., PADs) modulate disease risk, with a major focus on cell-specific role on the regional milieu and disease pathology. The candidate will join a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative research team that includes geneticists, immunologists, biostatisticians, neuroscientists, and neuropathologist at the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging as one of the leading centers in the country for ADRD and LATE research and clinical interventions.
