Two Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are available in the laboratory of Dr. Judith Brown, School of Plant Sciences, Plant Pathology/Microbiology. The successful applicant is expected to shown proficiency in molecular biology and molecular virology approaches, virome/microbiome analyses; functional genomics characterization of insect vector-pathogen interactions; plant protoplast-single cell-omics; high throughput sequencing analyses and bioinformatics.

• Molecular cloning, DNA sequencing, high-throughput sequencing for characterization of DNA and RNA viral genomes
• High throughput DNA and RNA sequencing and bioinformatics
• Phylogenetic, population genetic, molecular clock, and recombination analyses
• Construction of infectious clones; gene gun & agro-inoculation
• Dual host pathogen sequencing; transcriptome analysis; reverse genetics-dsRNA design and RNAi gene knockdown.
• Transgenic plant expression of ds/ssRNA for pathogen-insect vector resistance
• Prepare reports, manuscripts, and presentations to communicate results and conclusions
• Regular communications with PI and team members in person and written
• Training/mentoring undergraduate and graduate students and visiting scientists.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Successful applicants will bring advanced skills in plant molecular biology, molecular virology, virome characterization; dual host-pathogen interactions, RNA interference, general bioinformatics skills applicable to plant-pathogen-insect pathosystems.

• Ph.D. in plant virology, molecular plant pathology, entomology, microbiology, plant molecular biology, or equivalent upon hire.
  

• Ph.D. in plant pathology/virology research of DNA plant virus and/or fastidious bacterial-prophage- pathosystems; or dsDNA virus-vector interactions.
