What We Want

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will lead a project linking structural variants to both seasonal migration and speciation. The main study system for this project is a hybrid zone between Swainson’s thrushes that differ in their migratory behavior. This is largely a bioinformatics project.

What You Need to Know

Salary Range: Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire's experience.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • Appropriate PhD

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to build a positive work environment and be helpful, respectful, approachable, and team-oriented

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • PhD in Biology or a related discipline

  • Experience in the wet lab (e.g., preparing samples for next-generation sequencing) and dry lab (e.g., analyzing genetic data)

  • Experience working with large datasets (e.g., using computing clusters for bioinformatics analyses)

  • Experience working in the field with birds

Responsibilities:

  • Research: Leads a project linking structural variants to both seasonal migration and speciation. The project involves bioinformatic work. Performs analyses on differential gene expression and/or epigenetic markers. Works on different aspects of behavioral genomics.

  • Research Training / Advising: Trains graduate and undergraduate students.

  • Lab Maintenance: Assists with lab maintenance and supply ordering.

  • Research Presentations: Prepares and presents research results and performs other duties as assigned.
