The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for a Research Scientist to serve as a member of the IBT-Center for Translational Cancer Research team. Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate Postdoctoral degree

  • Six years of research experience

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge and professional experience developing and optimizing complex in vitro cell-based assay systems as applied to drug discovery or toxicology

  • Personal responsibility and ability to work independently without supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD degree in a STEM-related field with 7+ years of demonstrated relevant professional, post-graduate, experience with demonstrated research experience as demonstrated by having peer reviewed publications where the applicant is either the senior author or the submitting author

  • Aseptic cell culture techniques experience is preferred

  • Prior research project management experience

  • Ability to work in teams with good interpersonal skills is a must

  • Impeccable record keeping skills, attention to detail, compatible with regulatory requirements

  • Experience in flow cytometry, imaging and image analysis, knowledge and experience working with both 2D and 3D cellular model systems

Responsibilities:

  • Experiments - Responsible for all aspects of routine drug testing including development, optimization, and performance of testing both known and unknown drugs for efficacy and toxicity in an array of relevant complex in vitro model systems, for complete data analysis from those studies, and the presentation of the completed analysis to collaborators and the publication of results in high quality peer reviewed journals.

  • Laboratory and Core Facilities - Responsible for assisting flow cytometry core users with their experimental analysis on our instruments. Responsible for developing immuno-oncology assays for our new high-throughput flow cytometry analyzer. Will design, analyze, evaluate, select, apply standard techniques and execute experiments. Plans, implements, coordinates, monitors and evaluates programs.

  • Data and Collection Management - Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to perform data analysis, statistical analysis, compiling data and technical evaluation of research experiments and results. Summarize results for inclusion in scientific and oriented publications. Prepare and write proposals to funding agencies; maintain financial accounts related to research projects. Prepares data for charts, figures, and manuscripts for papers, meetings, and for publication in journals. Prepares slides for presentation at scientific conferences and meetings. Document and interpret results to the principal investigator. Makes and records observations and measurements. Maintain a record of laboratory processes and findings in a detailed laboratory notebook.

  • Meetings and Collaboration - Participate in weekly lab meetings within the center and other departments. Assist in the supervision of graduate students and other research lab personnel. Participate in joint projects involving the laboratory team.

  • Maintenance of Lab Resources - Establish, install, maintain, operate and/or repair research equipment and stocks; assist with ordering general lab supplies and equipment.

  • Training - Assist the directors of High Throughput Flow Cytometry in educating and training the technical staff, graduate students, and post-docs in the application and use of advanced experimental models for the evaluation of new drug efficacy and toxicity.
