The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for an Postdoctoral Research Associate - Watson Lab to serve as a member of the Microbial Pathogenesis and Immunology team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The Postdoctoral Research Associate, under general direction, is responsible for performing experiments related to how mitochondrial dysfunction leads to inflammation. Responsible for their own independent research project, intended to further the mission of the lab. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be a full-time researcher, performing experiments, generating data, analyzing/interpreting data, and presenting results both orally and by publishing in peer-reviewed journals.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate doctoral degree.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

  • Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in immunology, microbiology, virology, neurobiology.

  • Experience with molecular biology, cell biology, and/or biochemistry experiments.

  • Published at least one first author manuscript in a peer-reviewed journal of international merit.

  • Knowledge of computational biology and experience working in a BSL3 lab.

  • Expertise in host-pathogen interactions with a skillset including tissue culture, molecular biology techniques (RT-qPCR, immunoprecipitation, western blotting), fluorescent microscopy, mouse handling, and infection.

  • Aptitude for oral and written communication.

  • Knowledge of culturing/propagating virus.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lab Work: Performs experiments related to host-pathogen interactions using both ex vivo and in vivo approaches.

  • Lab Participation: Attends and participates in laboratory meetings and departmental seminars and journal club.

  • Manuscript and Data Analysis: Performs primary data analysis and initial preparation of manuscripts and presentations. Assist other members of the research team as needed. Assists with new grant submissions. Performs other duties as assigned.
