Summary

Dr. Xi Chen's lab studies the unction and mechanism of Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) protein quality control machinery in cancer progression, metastasis and therapy resistance. Research will focus on specializing in ER stress, Unfolded Protein Response (UPR), biochemistry, transgenic and preclinical animal models, cancer biology and immunology.


Job Duties

This specifics of this research target is to study the function and mechanism of Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) protein quality control machinery in cancer progression, metastasis and therapy resistance, with special focus on cancer immunotherapy. The long-term goals is to elucidate the significance and mechanisms of ER proteostasis in cancer progression, metastasis and therapy resistance, and developing mechanism-based novel therapies to overcome therapy resistance and transform cancer to a manageable chronic disease. To further study a recently revealed unprecedented role of the IRE1a/XBP1 branch of the UPR in mediating tumor homeostasis and therapy resistance.

  • Maintains an organized daily electronic laboratory notebook.
  • Meets with PI to discuss their work.
  • Presents results in professional forums (seminars, meetings, and conferences) .
  • Publishes findings in peer-reviewed journals.
  • Performs assigned general laboratory chores.

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong background and working knowledge in immunology and cancer biology.
  • Research background in the specific area in cancer progression, metastasis and therapy resistance, with special focus on cancer immunotherapy.
  • Expertise in animal models and flow cytometry is strongly preferred.
