Summary of Job Duties:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual who is interested in supporting research projects in a variety of experimental models including population research, animal studies, and cell culture studies to understand the impact of exposure including heavy metals, trace elements, pesticides, tobacco usage, and chemotherapies, in health outcomes. This is a full-time Post-Doctoral Fellow (100% FTE) and will require working with human samples. Prior experience with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC–MS) is desirable. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Post-Doctoral Fellow will provide high-quality and professional operational support to maintain and support the analytical instrument in the laboratory including Thermo Vanquish HPLC coupled with iCAP RQ ICP-MS. The Post-Doctoral Fellow will be expected to work independently and as part of a team to ensure high-quality data acquisition; maintaining accurate records; assisting with the quality assurance, quality control, and integrity of the data; conducting systematic searches on the Internet and via PubMed; and other duties as assigned. Training opportunities exist with UAMS academic units and centers, as well as opportunities for instrumentation and software learning.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry, chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field.

  • Hands-on experience in heavy metal analysis.

Special knowledge, abilities and skills:

  • In-depth understanding of both hardware and software of ICP-MS and/or LC-MS

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in working with human samples is a strong plus. Proficiency in ICP-MS software and data analysis


Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Develops heavy metals and trace element analysis workflows including sample preparation, microwave digestion, speciation, and data acquisition for assays of biological samples.

  • Performs LC-MS analysis of small molecules in biological samples.

  • Works with team to develop surveys, trainings, and protocols to support research projects.

  • Supports research team in summarizing results and literature reviews that inform presentations, papers, and research projects.

  • Participates in regular project meetings, trainings, provides updates on progress, and communicates regularly with study team.

  • Works with study team to develop and implement secure systems for assuring the quality, confidentiality, and safety of the data and work with study team to maintain appropriate study logs, records, and databases.

  • Other duties may be assigned to this position.

Salary Information:

Post doctoral fellow salaries are determined by the NRSA stipend level
