Educational Programs and Services (EPS) is home to departments and programs that are central to the educational mission of the Stanford University School of Medicine.  We serve all populations of students and trainees who participate in the School's programs: Stanford MD, MS, MSPA, and PhD students; visiting MD students seeking clinical clerkships; postdoctoral scholars and medical fellows; and medical practitioners seeking further professional enrichment. Department Information

The Office of Medical Student Affairs provides comprehensive, integrated and efficient support services to medical students through partnerships throughout the School of Medicine. We are an effective and responsive team of professionals and student advocates who work collaboratively to ensure our students’ personal and academic success. 

The Office of Medical Student Affairs (OMSA) helps students with academic and student-life needs. We are the starting point for information, support and guidance and are dedicated to helping Stanford students make the most of their time here and supporting their school/life balance.

Job Purpose

The Office of Medical Student Affairs is seeking a Director of Disability Resources to provide strategy, vision and direction regarding issues and objectives impacting student disability services offered by the Office of Disability Resources. This position will oversee and manage case-by-case student accommodation determinations and programmatic development for furthering accessibility and inclusion for Stanford students.  In addition, this role will manage the work of other employees, including managers.   This position will report to the Associate Dean for the Office of Medical Student Affairs.

Liaise with senior management and cross-functional areas and schools to implement this vision and strategy. Identify, clarify, and resolve complex issues with university-wide scope and impact and substantial significance which may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring broad discretion and judgment.

  • Remaining up-to-date on best practices and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

This position will be based on the Stanford campus and will be considered for an option of telecommuting from the Bay Area (hybrid of working 2-3 days on-site), subject to operational need.

Core Duties

  • Manage the work of disability advising staff, processes, and projects, to implement the strategic goals of the Office of Disability Resources and the Office of Medical Student Affairs; manage staffing needs, provide coaching, mentoring, and manage performance.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
  • Identify and resolve complex issues with university-wide scope and impact and substantial significance with may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring broad discretion and judgment.
  • Provide strategic direction for the Office of Disability Resources, including forecasting, planning, and managing program budgets.
  • Develop and adapt tools such as publications and communications to effectively implement student disability policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate and recommend the technological needs and effectiveness for delivery of student programs and services by working directly with the Learning Strategies Specialist and Ed Tech to determine assistive technology needs for students with disabilities and determine how to make such technology accessible for our students.
  • Conduct outreach to faculty, staff, and key community members as well as collaborate with the Advising Dean for Inclusive Learning and The Associate Dean of Student Affairs.
  • Partner with the School of Medicine and university leadership teams to support/lead school-wide initiatives.
  • Represent the Office of Disability Resources and initiatives at senior level meetings, conferences, and to the university to both internal and external constituents.

Education & Experience (Required)

Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience. Experience in higher education setting preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required)

  • User knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Advanced communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and all levels of management.
  • Strong analytical skills to review and analyze complex financial information.
  • Strong leadership and strategic management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience managing people.
  • Understanding of underlying technological needs and requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $121,000 to $150,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
