Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The Office of Research, Economic Development, and Engagement (REDE) is responsible for research policy and integrity, research administration, and sponsored project contract negotiations across ECU. REDE leads economic and community engagement initiatives including partnerships with public sector agencies, industry, military, and other organizations in pursuit of scholarly activities, economic development, and community engagement. REDE directs new intellectual enterprises, including technology transfer. REDE is responsible for the following units under its umbrella: Office of Research Administration, Office of Engaged Research, Office of Research Development, Office of Continuing and Professional Education, Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, Office of Undergraduate Research, Office of Research and Innovation Campus Development, the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, Office of Human Subjects Protections, Office of Licensing and Commercialization, Office of National Security and Industry Initiatives, Office of Research Integrity and Compliance, Compliance Monitoring, and the Small Business and Technology Development Center.
Job Duties
The East Carolina University Office of Licensing and Commercialization has the goal of translating early-stage innovations into impact through research, entrepreneurship, and commercialization. A major initiative lead by the office and funded by the National Science Foundation is the I-Corps@ECU program. I-Corps@ECU embraces the ideation process through assessment of research and scholarly inventions and innovations using proven methods in lean launch, customer discovery and business model innovation. The program supports 30-50 teams per year and provides seed grants of up to $5,000 per STEM related team in support of customer discovery and proof-of-concept validation. The I-Corps Project Coordinator will work alongside the lead principal investigator of the I-Corps@ECU program to educate I-Corps teams, track program metrics and funding requests, review team homework, and be an advocate for the program across the campus and community. Additional skills learned through the job will include various aspects of customer discovery, business opportunity assessment, intellectual property strategy, business intelligence, and market analysis.
The position should have knowledge of, and experience in, project management, invention and innovation processes, technology transfer, entrepreneurism, and/or have a willingness to use these skills to enhance university commercialization activities related to research discoveries.
I-Corps Project Coordinator will perform the following activities:

Data Management Activities (Approximately 90% of I-Corps Project Coordinator’s time)

· Entering and tracking team metrics.
· Entering and tracking team funding requests.
· Ensuring compliance with funding requests.
· Purchasing and travel support.
· Managing new vendor requests.
· EPAF submissions related to the I-Corps Innovation Ambassador Program.
Experiential Activities (Approximately 10% of I-Corps Project Coordinator’s time)

· Learning policies, procedures and regulations concerning I-Corps@ECU.
· Scouting and assessing innovations for fit within the I-Corps@ECU program.
· Conducting customer interviews to improve program offerings.
· Identifying consultants, contract research organizations and/or third parties that can assist in mentoring I-Corps teams.
· Networking with internal and external partners about the benefit of I-Corps.
The I-Corps Project Coordinator is expected to demonstrate compliance with established federal, state, and university guidelines and regulatory standards for research including biosafety, responsible conduct of research and human subjects training.
Minimum Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Experience with processing travel for university stakeholders, managing Chrome River like systems to complete accounts payable processes, using corporate purchasing credit cards such as ProCard, and managing multiple projects.
