LAB RESEARCH ANALYST I


JOB DESCRIPTION & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the direction of the PI, provide support for research focused on understanding mechanisms that regulate metabolic control and mitochondrial energy metabolism, along with mechanisms that connect lifestyle factors such as a healthy diet and routine exercise to lower risk of metabolic diseases.
  • Under the direction of the PI, provide support for metabolic research involving rodent and cell culture models of obesity, diabetes, and heart disease.
  • Work as a member of a large team of talented investigators that study basic mechanisms of metabolic physiology.
  • Perform laboratory duties involving molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell culture.
  • Assist with routine maintenance of mouse colonies.
  • Assist postdoctoral fellows with studies involving mouse breeding and mouse physiology.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation including database maintenance and use of electronic notebooks.
  • Order and stock lab supplies.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the lab.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as requested.

EDUCATION:

Candidates with an MS degree in biology, biochemistry, physiology, or closely related field plus 3-5 years of experience in academic or industry research are preferred. Candidates with a BS degree and 5+ years of laboratory research experience will also be considered.


Required Qualifications at this Level

Education/Training:

Work requires a bachelor's degree in botany, biology, zoology, psychology or other directly related scientific field.


Experience:

Work requires two years of research experience. A related master's degree may offset required years of experience on a 1:1 basis, e.g., a two-year master's degree in lieu of two years of experience.

OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE


Skills

Knowledge of and experience with basic biochemistry and cell biology techniques such as DNA and RNA isolation, PCR, qRT-PCR, gel electrophoresis, western blot analyses, enzymology, respirometry and/or cell culture is strongly preferred.

Basic computing skills and experience with Excel software.

Experience with data visualization software (e.g., Prism) and/or statistics (JMP) is desirable.

Competencies in data analysis, data visualization and/or coding skills are highly desirable.

Knowledge and experience with mass spectrometry will be considered favorably.

The ability to enforce and adhere to strict safety requirements is essential.

Must have strong communication and organizational skills.

Must be detail-oriented, team-orientated, and adaptable to shifting priorities in a fast-paced work environment.

Ability to multitask efficiently and work effectively in an interactive team environment.
