Position Summary:


The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy (EJB) seeks to hire a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor or a non-tenure track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Professional Practice for appointment beginning July 2024. Candidates should have a specialty in urban design. Strong candidates will focus on reducing the negative effects of extreme climate events on populations and infrastructure, especially through the application of equity-oriented urban design. We are particularly interested in scholars or practitioners who have a clear research agenda or practical experience in the following areas: resilient and affordable housing, human environmental behavior, net zero energy buildings and neighborhoods, resilient neighborhoods/cities, urban systems modeling, computational and digital design, participatory design, evidence-based design, and urban design methods. Work with an international and comparative focus is encouraged.
The faculty member will teach in the Master of City and Regional Planning program and related graduate and undergraduate programs in the Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy.

The Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy is a professional school offering a doctoral program in Planning and Public Policy; master's degrees in Public Policy, Urban Planning and Policy Development, Public Informatics, and Health Administration; undergraduate degrees in Public Policy, Planning and Public Policy, Urban Planning and Design, Health Administration, and Public Health. The School has eight research centers and institutes, and annually attracts approximately $25 million in external grants and contracts. The programs in urban planning, public policy, and public health are all highly ranked nationally. A new Rutgers Climate and Energy Institute serves as a focal point on campus for multidisciplinary climate change research.

Minimum Education and Experience:


By June 1, 2024, hold a doctorate or terminal professional degree in urban planning, geography, architecture, civil or architectural engineering, public policy, urban informatics, environmental psychology, or a related discipline, with a focus and specialized interest in urban design, climate change, and resilience. For the tenure-track position, candidates must have a doctorate.
