Job Description
POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Mechanical Engineering (MechE), to join the research group of Professor Domitilla Del Vecchio . Professor Del Vecchio's group is developing a number of bacterial genetic controllers for a variety of applications, including bacterial co-culture stabilization, growth rate regulation, and neutralization of competition in CRISPRi/a systems. Seek a self-motivated experimentalist with a predominantly theoretical background who can effectively communicate and collaborate with students in order to: design and build the genetic controllers in bacterial cells, design appropriate positive and negative controls to assess performance, analyze data using proper statistics, and interpret the results. Will co-author a number of manuscripts stemming from the collaborations with a few Ph.D. students, assist with grant proposal writing, present work at one (or two) conferences each year. Will also be responsible for training new Ph.D. students in standard wet lab techniques, including bacterial culture, plate reader experiments, flow cytometry, data analysis, and bacterial plasmid design.
Job Requirements
REQUIRED: Ph.D. degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, molecular biology, microbiology, or closely related field; cloning (Gibson), plasmid design, bacterial culture (batch and continuous), plate reader operation, flow cytometry, qPCR (including RT-qPCR), and gel electrophoresis skills; and experience with the design of bacterial genetic circuits. PREFERRED: basic understanding of mathematical models of genetic circuits. Job #21731
This is a two-year appointment with the possibility of extension provided funds are available and satisfactory progress is made.
In addition to applying via the MIT website, interested candidates are asked to send CV and research statement directly to Professor Domitilla Del Vecchio at ddv@mit.edu. Candidates will be interviewed in November 2022 and a final decision will be made by December 15, 2022.
