Title Assistant Professor of Radiology & Imaging Sciences (AIR program)
Specific Title
Appointment Type Tenure Track Faculty
Department IUSM - Radiology & Imaging Sciences
Campus IU School of Medicine Indianapolis
Position Summary
The Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) seeks candidates to join our Advanced Imaging Research Program (the AIR program) as a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor.
Job responsibility:
The responsibility includes (1) developing and optimizing MRI sequences for various clinical and preclinical projects; (2) image (big) data analyses; (3) applying machine learning and deep learning algorithms to data analyses; (4) grant proposal preparation and manuscript writing; (5) training junior researchers and students; and (6) leading independent research projects. It is expected that this person has high interpersonal skills and can work in a highly collaborative environment.
About us:
In 2023, IUSM ranks 14th among public medical schools and 27th in NIH funding nationally. The AIR program works closely with the In-Vivo Imaging Core, which houses high-end research-dedicated scanners. These scanners include a Siemens 3T Prisma scanner with 32CH and 64CH receiver head coils, Siemens Vision PET-CT systems, and a Brucker 9.4T PET-MRI preclinical scanner. The Prisma scanner is scheduled to be upgraded to Cima.X Fit with commercialized connectome gradients of 200mT/m in 2024. Our research group focuses on developing novel imaging and analytical techniques in advanced diffusion-weighted imaging and other quantitative brain imaging (e.g., volumetric MRI, tasked functional MRI, resting-stat MRI, QSM, perfusion MRI, and PET). The research environment is highly interdisciplinary, including neuroradiologists, neurologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, neuroscientists, computational neuroscientists, statisticians, physicists, and research scientists. IU has a world-class supercomputing system that provides storage options as well as CPU and GPU computing clusters.
As the nation’s largest medical school, IUSM is committed to being an institution that not only reflects the diversity of the learners we teach and the patient populations we serve, but also pursues the values of diversity, equity and inclusion that inform academic excellence. We desire candidates who enhance our representational diversity, as well as those whose work contributes to equitable and inclusive learning and working environments for our students, staff, and faculty. IUSM strives to take an anti-racist stance, regularly evaluating and updating its policies, procedures, and practices to confer equitable opportunities for contribution and advancement for all members of our community. We invite individuals who will join us in our mission to advance racial equity to transform health and well being for all throughout the state of Indiana.
Basic Qualifications
Qualification:
We are looking for applicants who are interested in MRI neuroimaging, PET molecular imaging, and neuroimaging data processing with a PhD degree in Medical Physics, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, or related disciplines. The candidate is expected to have at least 6 years of postdoctoral experience in MRI sequence optimization and programming using both clinical (Siemens) and preclinical (Bruker) MRI systems. Diffusion MRI compartment modeling, perfusion MRI, MR spectroscopy, chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) imaging, volumetric MRI, quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM), and imaging of myelin in both clinical and preclinical settings are some of the skills that are needed. Expert levels of computer programming in GPU computing, Matlab, Python, C/C++, and the statistical toolboxes (R and SPSS) are highly desirable. Skills in imaging data processing with software tools (e.g., FSL, SPM, FreeSurfer, ANTs, and VBM) will play a significant role in selecting. A good understanding of various animal models and a track record of peer-reviewed publication demonstrating scholarly ability are also important parts of the consideration.
