Job Overview

 As one of the oldest medical schools in the country, the UC College of Medicine has a reputation for training best-in-class health care professionals and developing cutting-edge procedures and research that improves the health and clinical care of patients.
 

A full-time (100 % FTE) Post Doc Fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Xuefeng Wang at the Hoxworth Blood Center, at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. The successful candidate will join a team to conduct research in the study of cell mechanobiology and enzymology, using cutting-edge biosensors and microfluidics, with a particular interest in the biomechanical behaviors of blood cells, immune cells, and cancer cells.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for utilizing molecular force sensors and single-molecule imaging microscopy to investigate cellular forces during cell adhesion, platelet aggregation, and macrophage-mediated immune response. The current force sensor has the ability to image single molecular tensions generated by cells, providing unprecedented ultra-sensitivity and super-resolution for cellular force studies. The recruited postdoctoral researcher will be involved in both the development of methods and the application of these techniques to biomedical research in this exciting frontier of mechanobiology. 


Essential Functions
  • Conduct research experiments in a particular field within the pre-determined research scope and methodology.
  • Gather and analyze data and develop new ideas that promote current research.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, manuscripts and presentations of research results.
  • Participate/assist in manuscript writing for publication in scientific journals and/or presentation; may assist in grant writing.
  • Keep informed of developments in field to maintain and enhance professional expertise.
  • Lab maintenance, including equipment maintenance and ordering of supplies, as needed.
  • May teach techniques to others, train, and mentor junior research staff.
  • Engage in appropriate training and professional development opportunities. 
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice, both from the faculty supervisor and from other faculty members as well. 
  • Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.

Required Education

Doctorate Degree or foreign equivalent, in biology, biophysics, biochemistry, bioengineering, biomedicine or related fields.


Required Experience
  • In-depth knowledge of specialized field, process or discipline.
  • May require experience with specialized software programs. 

Additional Qualifications Considered
  • Experience in cell culture, common cell biology assays, fluorescence microscopy and image analysis.
  • Good communication and writing skills.
  • Prior experience in the studies of platelets, neutrophils or macrophages.
  • Prior experience in biosensor development
