The laboratory of Dr Sushma Reddy, MD, Associate Professor of Pediatrics, and the Director of Proteomics Dr Ryan Lieb, PhD, are seeking a highly-motivated and accomplished postdoctoral scholar to join their team of investigators in the Division of Cardiology, Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, California.
A successful applicant will be immersed in cutting-edge, translational proteomics studies in children with congenital heart disease and heart failure using local and national biobanks, with the goal of improving biological understanding, refining risk prediction, and discovering new therapeutic targets. A major emphasis of ongoing work is to improve portability of heart failure risk prediction and developing blood-based testing for clinical utility.
Potential areas of research include the following projects:
1. Developing a liquid biopsy of myocardial events
2. Developing a targeted biomarker panel for pediatric heart failure risk prediction
3. Identification of novel drug targets in pediatric heart failure
Stanford University School of Medicine provides a highly stimulating and interactive research environment that includes a world renowned Cardiovascular Institute, Maternal Child Health Research Institute and the Stanford University Mass Spectrometry Laboratory.  In combination, these organizations provide exceptional opportunities for post-doctoral scholars to join highly structured training programs that include, but are not limited, to National Institutes of Health T32 grants. For candidates with MD degrees, the Stanford Center for Clinical and Translational Research and Education offers exceptional KL2 and TL1 clinical research training programs. More advanced postdocs with M.D., M.D./Ph.D. and Ph.D. degrees, may also benefit from the recently established Expanded Pilot PI waiver to apply for R01-type grants that require Principal Investigator status. Mentorship/co-mentorship will be structured according to research interests and will include Drs Sushma Reddy and Ryan Lieb. Furthermore, projects are multi-institutional and provide abundant opportunities to collaborate and network with researchers across North America and Europe that are not based at Stanford University.
