Under direct supervision of Cedars-Sinai Cancer (CSC) Associate Director for Shared Resources, the Project Scientist works independently and in cooperation with other CSC leadership to manage the Cancer Biobank scientific goals and daily operations. The CSC Biobank will manage the research operations related to biomaterial acquisition, storage and retrieval for the Molecular Twin research initiative. The CSC Biobank will manage additional patient-donated biomaterials required for research projects within the CSC. The Project Scientist will have the operational title “Scientific Director, Cancer Biobank” and serve as the administrative and scientific lead for the CSC Biobank and its staff members.


What will you be doing:
  • May assist in preparation of grant proposals, submissions, publications and presentations but is not responsible for generating grant funds.
  • Supervises and performs a variety of research projects for Cancer Biobank following standard operating procedures that might be different for each patient based on the type of biological samples needed.
  • Performs and maintains good documentation practices, and ensures all documentation stays in sync with Federal and State accrediting agency requirements.
  • Accessioning of surgical specimens in the laboratory information system (LIS).
  • Perform specimen photography and radiography.
  • Perform frozen sections and other intraoperative consultations.
  • Procure tissue for tumor banking and research studies.
  • Assist with duties related to surgical pathology.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve problems related to surgical pathology.
  • Participate and/or assist in accessioning and labeling specimens.
  • Maintain equipment, supply inventory, specimen storage and disposal, and general cleanliness of the laboratory

Experience Requirements:

  • Doctorate Degree required.
  • Demonstrated significant, original, and creative contributions to a research or creative program or project Completion of postdoctoral appointment in area of specialization, as applicable.
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience, preferred.
