Postdoctoral positions are available immediately in the Department of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston to study the molecular mechanisms of mitosis and cytokinesis in an early branching microbial eukaryote, Trypanosoma brucei . This human pathogen employs novel regulatory proteins to control its cell division cycle, and the mechanisms underlying mitosis and cytokinesis in T. brucei are distinctively different from that in its human host (Wei et al., Nature Communications, 2014; Zhou et al., PNAS, 2016; Hu et al., PLoS Pathogens, 2017; An et al., Cell Reports, 2018; Zhou et al., Nucleic Acids Res. 2018; Zhou et al., Nucleic Acids Res. 2019; An et al., Science Signaling, 2021; Lee et al., BMC Biology, 2021; Kurasawa et al., Open Biology, 2022; Lee et al., PLoS Pathogens, 2023). The positions are supported by NIH grants for multiple years, with a starting salary of US $56,484 per annual plus fringe benefit. The postdoctoral fellows should have extensive training in cell biology, biochemistry, and molecular biology. Prior experience in cell cycle regulation is preferred, but not required. Self-motivated and career-oriented recent Ph.D. graduates with strong background in biochemistry, cell biology, and molecular biology are encouraged to apply.
