Summary of Job Duties:

The Center for the Study of Obesity within the Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health is seeking a post doctor fellow. The appointment will be for two years. The successful candidate will be integral to achieving the Center’s research mission by engaging in applied research related to obesity, nutrient/food consumption, and policy/program evaluation. The successful candidate will support the Center through:
(1) Development of research studies
(2) Data acquisition, management and analysis
(3) Facilitation of ongoing research studies
(4) Interacting with stakeholder groups including, but not restricted to, families of schoolchildren, school staff, government officials, non-profit entities, and community leaders
(5) Developing background on policies and programs that affect diet, exercise, nutritional security, and other pathways to improve weight outcomes or improve management of obesity and obesity-related conditions
(6) Delivery of manuscripts, reports, proposals, and presentations

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree providing the ability to contribute expertise in areas such as human nutrition, child development, health services research, behavioral economics and/or public health.

  • Two years of research experience related to analysis of secondary data or evaluation of policies or interventions in areas of health, nutrition, and/or physical activity.  This experience can include dissertation research or other experience obtained during the doctoral training program.

Special knowledge, abilities and skills:

  • Ability to work in community-engaged research. 

  • The successful candidate should work well with the public and diverse cultures.

  • The successful candidate must be conversant SAS or R for statistical modeling and have experience working with national health datasets or other large administrative or commercial datasets. 

  • Familiarity with open-source data science platforms is a plus. 

  • If not already possessed, the successful candidate will be expected to develop the capability to work in the R software environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One or more years of experience interacting with schools, health agencies, or community organizations.

  • Bilingual (Spanish) speaking is a plus.


Additional Information:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support Center research projects through activities such as:

  • Developing and supporting applied research projects resulting in peer-reviewed publications and grant submissions.

  • Presenting research findings to academic and stakeholder audiences. 

  • Designing and implementing empirical strategies to address secondary and administrative datasets related to nutrition, health, and behavioral development.

  • It is anticipated that much of this work will focus on the effects of child nutrition programs and other school-level policies.
