JOB SUMMARY

The Learning and Development (L&D) Specialist plays a significant role in achieving Plymouth’s overall Learning and Development strategy focusing on the learning and development needs of the Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) staff. This position helps to develop staff knowledge, skills, and performance through learning opportunities which support Plymouth’s mission, values, and goals. The L&D Specialist is committed to an equitable and inclusive culture by identifying, developing, and coordinating the delivery of relevant and accessible learning experiences for PSH staff. This position is expected to promote and integrate the tenets of harm reduction, the ‘housing first’ philosophy, and trauma informed care into their practice and all learning experiences. The L&D Specialist serves as the key administrator of Plymouth’s learning management system.

 


This is a full-time, exempt position.

 


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Partners with PSH Lead Team to assess and prioritize needs, and develop a plan for providing relevant learning opportunities for the PSH staff. Promotes and integrates the tenants of harm reduction, housing first, and trauma informed care that lead to resident housing stability and eviction prevention.
  • Collaborates with subject matter experts to ensure the development of relevant and accessible learning content and to identify resources for its delivery.
  • Works closely with the DEI Leadership Taskforce to integrate equitable and inclusive content and best practices into learning experiences.
  • Identifies and coordinates with external facilitators and guest speakers, as needed.
  • Responsible for all aspects of trainings including instructor-led and online content design and delivery, onsite venue location and logistics, vendor contract management, communication, learner’s preparation, registration, material distribution, and post trainings evaluations.
  • Administers Plymouth’s Learning Management System (LMS) which includes maintaining user data, organizing learning paths, developing and uploading custom content, updating versions of content, assigning/tracking training for employees, and notification management. Identifies opportunities for optimizing the LMS and its benefits. Serves as the primary contact for LMS vendor and technical support.
  • Creates and maintains sections of PSH Operations Manual related to best practices for services to ensure guidelines are clear and accessible.
  • Collaborates with the HR team and others to review, update, and deliver a comprehensive employee onboarding program.
  • Maintains skills by actively participating in outside trainings to keep abreast of current best practices and training methods.
  • Assists in creating and tracking PSH-related training budget.
  • Establishes and generates a regular cycle of reporting.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

 


ESSENTIAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS

(Any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, education and experience)

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related discipline, or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in nonprofit, social services.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a learning and development role such as trainer, facilitator, presenter, developing content, or managing related projects and programs.
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Experience and knowledge of de-escalation techniques and approaches, Motivational Interviewing, chemical dependency, trauma issues, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to harm reduction.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) and valuing different perspectives. Understanding of the integration of DEI to learning and development programs
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Flexibility and willingness to work collaboratively with all levels of the organization to accomplish responsibilities
  • Proven effectiveness in managing multiple projects, with the ability to organize and coordinate work efficiently, pay attention to details, prioritize workload, adapt to changing priorities, and adhere to deadlines
  • Ability to work flexible work hours, as needed.
  • Strong technical skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and virtual meeting software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a PSH work environment
  • Experience with a LMS and using course authoring software
  • Familiarity with local training resources
