Position Information
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit | The UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (www.pharmacy.unc.edu) is one of five health science schools (Pharmacy, Nursing, Dentistry, Public Health, Medicine) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is one of the oldest health science academic programs at Chapel Hill. The School teaches approximately 600 PharmD students and 150 graduate students. Position Summary | The Division of Chemical Biology and Medicinal Chemistry (CBMC) (https://pharmacy.unc.edu/divisions/cbmc/) in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy (https://pharmacy.unc.edu) invites applications for two 12-month tenure track positions (preference for Assistant Professor rank, with the possibility of open rank in exceptional cases). The ideal candidates will have research expertise in medicinal chemistry/chemical biology/structural biology/computational chemistry within the general field of neuroscience. The research focus on pain and opioid use disorders is preferred, but it can also reside in neurodevelopment, neurological diseases, and neurodegeneration. We are seeking candidates who possesses the potential to establish an innovative, competitive and independent research program. Candidates are expected to contribute to the education and training of students in the Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences (PhD) graduate program, the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) professional program, and postdoctoral fellows in the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy. CBMC is comprised of more than 30 faculty with research strengths in the synthesis and structure-activity characterization of pharmaceutically relevant small molecules, the chemical biology of designed small-molecule ligands and their cognate drug targets, combinatorial biochemistry and proteomics, structural biology, chemo- and bioinformatics, and molecular modeling. Faculty enjoy collaborative opportunities with CBMC’s Structural Genomics Consortium (https://pharmacy.unc.edu/research/centers/sgc-unc/) and the Center for Integrative Chemical Biology and Drug Discovery (https://cicbdd.web.unc.edu), UNC’s five health science schools, and a stimulating regional research environment in the Research Triangle Park. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements | PhD. degree in Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry/Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, or a closely related discipline. |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience | - A strong track record of publications that demonstrate innovation and an interest in designing, synthesizing, and/or applying novel molecular agents in the area of neuroscience. - Possesses the potential to establish a competitive and independent research program. - Candidates with expertise in medicinal chemistry, chemical biology, structural biology, and/or computational modeling with a focus on neuroscience. |
