Job Description
We are a proud equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, and we seek applicants with deep connections to the cultural communities to which our students belong. We actively seek and encourage applications from women, people of color, persons with disabilities, and individuals with protected veteran status.
The purpose of this position is to supervise the Student Services team, to provide leadership for the functions of the department, to provide management and expertise for the information system modules supporting these functions and to serve as the department’s communication specialist and webmaster.
Normandale Community College intends to eliminate equity gaps for all students by 2025. For degree-seeking students, Normandale will ensure 50% (or more) who state an intention to attain an Associate’s degree or transfer to a four-year university will achieve that goal.
The Assistant Director will be required to participate and lead college and department strategic initiatives designed to eliminate educational equity gaps, improve completion rates for degree seeking students, and develop a more culturally competent, service-oriented institutional culture. The position supervises the training and work of department employees. This position also coordinates and oversees the functions of the Student Services Office, provides administrative support to the Director, and acts as the Director in his or her absence.

  • Ability to interpret, understand and explaining complex regulations and policies.
  • Experience working with individuals and families from diverse and traditionally underserved backgrounds with varied needs by providing culturally responsive support.
  • Written and verbal communication skills sufficient to participate in discussions and communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical team members
  • Ability to track data in an organized and accurate manner, and report that data

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Student Affairs Administration or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience ensuring equity, diversity, and inclusion are effectively addressed in any of the following areas: student support services, personnel supervision, leadership functions of the department, information technology, and communications.
  • Working knowledge of student information systems, document imaging, and related web communications and degree audit systems
  • Bilingual or working proficiency in Somali, Spanish, or Hmong
