Job Summary

The Research Analyst uses skills as a seasoned, experienced research professional with a full understanding of in-depth statistical analyses and/or research software programming techniques. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
The analyst will participate on a multi-disciplinary research team focused on preparing for clinical trials in neurodegenerative disorders by validating endpoints and modeling disease progression. This position will have a particular focus on cognitive, language, motor, and passive (e.g., GPS) data collected using a smartphone application in patients with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The data analyst will help to build a queryable database that integrates with existing data systems and conduct statistical analyses.

The analyst will participate on a multi-disciplinary research team focused on preparing for clinical trials in neurodegenerative disorders by validating endpoints and modeling disease progression. This role will have a particular focus on managing and analyzing cognitive, language, motor, and passive (e.g., GPS, actigraphy) data collected using a smartphone application in patients with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD). The data analyst will also have the opportunity to delve into multimodal data that includes additional cognitive testing, neuroimaging, and fluid biomarkers. Job functions involve gathering, analyzing, and interpreting a wide variety of research data, which may include maintaining and extending the capabilities of an existing database and data management pipeline, generating datasets and reports, writing and troubleshooting R code, analyzing collected information, preparing reports, charts, tables, and other visual aids to interpret and communicate data and results.

Please note: The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point. An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

Thorough knowledge of research function. Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming. Thorough skills in analysis and consultation. Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing. Skills in project management. Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum three years of experience / or equivalent experience / training.
