This position seeks to fill a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Chemical Process Scale-up Group with expertise in experimental methods to capture CO2 either from point sources or directly from air. The position resides in the Chemical Process Scale-up Group within the Manufacturing Sciences Division (MSD), Energy Science and Technology Directorate (ESTD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities: 

• The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with a diverse range of staff across ORNL.
• The successful candidate will conduct collaborative research primarily in the area of CO2 absorption by solvents.
• The chosen candidate is expected to work with scientists and engineers to contribute to major programs in the areas of CO2 capture and utilization.

Basic Qualifications:

• A PhD in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field completed within the last 5 years

Preferred Qualifications:

• Laboratory experience on setting up experimental systems and performing experiments, as well as analyzing experimental data, will be considered favorably
• Analytical skills and characterization of solvent properties will be a positive
• A demonstrated record of technical accomplishments in the field of CO2 capture
• A relevant record of peer-reviewed journal publications, patents, or industry/commercial impact
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory 
• Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
