Position Highlights

2 Postdoctoral Research Associate positions are currently available in the laboratory of Dr. Jil Tardiff at the University of Arizona, Dept of Biomedical Engineering.  Current work in the lab is broad-based and highly translational, utilizing a wide range of methodologies from the Regulated in vitro motility assay, TR-FRET, Stopped-flow kinetics to the generation of cardiac-specific transgenic mouse models and RNA-Seq/Proteomics to study the pathogenesis of thin filament cardiomyopathies (HCM and DCM).  We also have an active collaboration with the Steve Schwartz group to develop computational models of thin filament dynamics as an in silico, high resolution “lab” to study early biophysical changes in myofilament activation.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform experiments at a post-doctoral level under the direction of the supervisor.
  • Conduct independent data generation and statistical analysis, prepare manuscripts for publication.
  • Document experimental findings in an appropriate manner to protect intellectual property.
  • Shared supervisory responsibility for research technical staff including graduate and undergraduate students.

  • Present talks, posters and research findings at national and international conferences.

  • Additional duties may be assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic skills of molecular biology and protein purification.
  • Interest in human cardiomyopathies.
  • Basic understanding of muscle biology.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related field required upon hire. 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with fluroscence spectroscopy, FRET, measurements of Ca2+ homeostasis / signaling. RNA-Seq/Proteomics, mouse models of cardiomyopathy, iPSC-CMs, isolated myofibrils. Note that any of these are sufficient.
  • Direct experience with primary muscle based experimental approaches.
