The School of Science at Marist College is pleased to invite applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Science & Policy, beginning August 2024. Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Science or closely related field by August 2024
  • Strong interest in evidence-based undergraduate science education and record of excellent teaching or potential to develop into an excellent teacher
  • Desire and ability to develop an active research program involving undergraduates
  • Strong interest in and potential for seeking externally funded research grants

Essential Functions:

The department seeks faculty committed to undergraduate teaching excellence at a comprehensive liberal arts institution that supports both liberal arts and professional programs. We are seeking an individual who will complement existing strengths in earth and life sciences within the department.  The ideal candidate will have expertise in the study and conservation of fish or wildlife, and preferably utilize the Hudson River as a teaching and research system.  Specialties of interest include, but are not limited to, conservation ecology/biology, habitat restoration, landscape/watershed ecology, and coupled natural-human systems interactions.  Successful candidates will have the ability to teach first-year courses such as Research Methods, Introduction to Environmental Issues (which supports the College Core/general education Curriculum), a senior-level capping course, and courses in their area of expertise. Teaching responsibilities include 9 or 12 contact hours per week, alternating by semester. Prior teaching experience is desirable; however, candidates with promise and enthusiasm for becoming a skilled teacher are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates must develop and maintain a robust research program involving undergraduates. Experience mentoring undergraduate research and abilities with GIS are highly desirable.  Strong preference will be given to candidates with strong potential and desire to obtain external research funding. Service to the College and beyond is also required.
