Summary of Job Duties:

A Post-Doctoral Fellow position is open in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Highly motivated individuals experienced with molecular and cellular techniques used in in vitro and in vivo tumor studies are sought with a strong interest in cancer research. The Wolfe laboratory is an interdisciplinary research lab that spans the interface between DNA repair and radiation therapy in deadly cancers. The lab studies aspects of oncogenic DNA repair regulation, homologous recombination dynamics, and radiation mouse models of human cancer. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research using molecular biology, cellular/radiation biology, and mouse model approaches to understand how DNA damage repair processes are critically important for maintaining the radioresistant phenotype of KRAS mutant pancreatic cancer. The candidate will be also trained in data analysis, manuscript and grant preparation, and presenting research findings in scientific meetings.

Qualifications:

Ph.D degree in biomedical science or related field required.

Responsibilities:

  • Pursue specialized research training and experience under the guidance of a scientific mentor; conducts research to characterize the genetic basis of human cancers.

  • Develops, adopts and implements new laboratory methods to achieve characterization of the genetic basis of human cancers.

  • Identifies novel genes and examines their role in cancer development.

  • Analyzes changes in gene copy number and mRNA or protein expression, gene cloning and mutation detection.

  • Participates in analyzing data for reports for the purpose of grants submissions.

  • Trains staff in molecular biology techniques.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.
