Job Description

Position Summary

Victoria College is recruiting for part-time student workers to work as tutors.  This position is responsible for assisting Victoria College students in the subject areas of Math, English, Humanities, and Sciences at the Victoria College Main Campus Tutoring Center.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Being available during scheduled hours to tutor Victoria College students
  2. Attending all tutor training and keeping current on training to improve competency and obtain a better understanding of the tutoring process, leading to College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification
  3. Continually communicating with the Tutor Coordinator
  4. Adhering to flexible schedule guidelines 
  5. Maintaining a positive attitude and providing positive constructive feedback often 
  6. Following all FERPA guidelines (as this position has access to student records)
  7. Documenting student appointments through Navigate and emails to instructors via the provided format and in a timely fashion (within 24 hours of sessions)—tutors must correctly note the First Time In College and Perkins students in reports
  8. Performing other duties as assigned by the Tutor Coordinator

Qualifications

  • Two (2) recommendations from faculty members at VC 
  • Must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours in the fall and spring, and 3 credit hours in the summer.  To continue employment during the summer session, you must be enrolled in the interim or summer 1 session.
  • Good academic (minimum GPA of 3.0) and disciplinary standing
  • An A or B in the subject content being tutored.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, the ability to follow through on responsibilities, and a willingness to contribute to the VC experience 
  • A clear understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the comprehensive community college and the achievement of academic excellence
  • Proficiency with MS Word, MS Office Outlook, and Excel
  • Ability to operate equipment such as computers, scanners, and copy machines
  • Relatability to college administration, faculty, students, and the public in a positive, courteous, and tactful manner
  • Capacity to successfully manage multiple projects

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc. Must be able to bend, turn, and stand for long periods of time.  The employee must be able to safely push or pull cartons, packages, counters, displays, etc., up t to 50lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen. Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
