This position is located at the J.J. Pickle Research Campus in North Austin

Purpose

The State of Texas Advanced Resource Recovery (STARR) project is looking for a researcher capable to integrate geology, geophysical and remote sensing information to support economic and environmental research within the State of Texas. We are also in need of increasing our capacities in the area of critical mineral exploration. The candidate will:

  • Collaborate with other STARR researchers;
  • Publish research results in high-impact journals and present in national and international conferences;
  • Interact with Texas operators and other state and local stakeholders;
  • Attract additional funding via proposal writing

Responsibilities

  • Integrate geological, geophysical and remote sensing data to tackle a wide variety of economic and environmental research topics in the State of Texas. Lead and provide support to STARR projects
  • Knowledge and technology transfer (publish research results in academic journals and present in conferences). Proposal writing.
  • Project administration


Required Qualifications

PhD degree in Geology or Geophysics with demonstrated experience manipulating remote sensing data to tackle geoscience problems. A background in structural geology, and/or hard-rock geoscience subdisciplines transferable/applicable to the broader topic of critical mineral and geological hydrogen exploration. Postdoctoral experience is required for this position. Proven record of collaboration within multidisciplinary teams and a demonstrated record of publication in international peer-reviewed journals.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in proposal writing. Ideally, the candidate will have field experience and the capacity to conduct petrological studies. Programming skills including IDL, Python, and MATLAB. Knowledge of geospatial and geophysical data retrieval and image processing tools.


Salary Range

$85,000 - $90,000

Retirement Plan Eligibility:

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
