Position Summary

The University of New Mexico, School of Medicine, Department of Neurology seeks an NIH-funded Postdoctoral Fellow position in Neuroscience - Neuroinflammation in stroke in Dr. Ranjana Poddar's neurology lab. The position is supported by NIH funded RO1 grants to study the effect of hyperhomocysteinemia (a common metabolic disorder) on the outcome of cerebral ischemia. The research is focused on identification of the signaling cascades and inflammatory responses involved in the exacerbation of ischemic brain damage under hyperhomocysteinemic condition. The goal is to translate these preclinical findings into the development of novel approaches for the treatment of cerebral ischemia under these conditions. The research program presents the opportunity to utilize a variety of approaches including cell culture, molecular biology, protein chemistry, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, small animal surgery (rat and mouse models of middle cerebral artery occlusion, implantation of micro-pump etc.), pharmacological intervention in both in vitro and in vivo models, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of brain, behavioral studies as well as knockout and transgenic mice studies.

Representative publications from the lab include:

J Biol Chem. (2019), 294: 11154-11165

Neurobiol Dis. (2019), 127:287-302
