JOB SUMMARY

The Ready to Connect Study at the University of Connecticut is recruiting applicants for a postdoctoral position. The successful applicant will play a key role on an NIH-funded research project (PI: Inge-Marie Eigsti, Ph.D.) investigating the active ingredients of conversational success in autistic and non-autistic teenagers during realistic social interactions, to establish ecologically valid speech-language profiles. We are especially interested in characterizing and comparing non-social acoustic and psycholinguistic predictors of language abilities and conversational success. We will use machine learning to model conversational profiles based on interactional measures of linguistic processes drawn from spontaneous conversation, and standardized language assessments, and to evaluate conversational success in neurotype-concordant and neurotype-discordant interactions. The successful candidate will join the intellectually rich Language Sciences community at the University of Connecticut, with opportunities to collaborate with an outstanding group of scientists and clinicians and to build an independent research program.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implementation of human subjects research and approvals.
  • Data collection, entry, and processing.
  • Statistical analyses.
  • Interpretation of findings.
  • Preparation of study findings for presentation at academic conferences and manuscripts for publication.
  • Participation in weekly team meetings.
  • Supervision of junior study personnel (including Ph.D. students, project coordinator, and undergraduate RAs).
  • Assuming primary responsibility for the development of his or her research and career.
  • Play an active role in seeking career and research advice from senior study personnel.
  • Work in a collegial and cooperative manner with the faculty supervisors and other co-workers.
  • Other related duties as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as Psychology or Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences.
  • A strong record of research productivity.
  • Knowledge of psycholinguistics.
  • Clear comprehension of experimental design.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong expertise in autism, as evidenced by Ph.D. thesis and/or publications.
  • Strong expertise in psycholinguistics and cognitive psychology.

APPOINTMENT TERMS
