Job Description:
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:

1) Designs and conducts real time PCR and sequence typing research projects to evaluate current and develops new poultry disease diagnostic assays. 2) Designs and conducts implementation of second and third generation sequencing research projects to adopt this new technology towards poultry disease diagnostics.  3) Designs and conducts poultry diseases epidemiology research projects to differentiate primary vs secondary pathogens and understanding their source of infection and transmission patterns. 4) Formulates research methods and suggests options for improving quality, identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions, and collaborates in the development of new techniques. 6) Reviews progress and evaluates results. 7) Trains other users (students, staff, etc) in equipment operation and laboratory techniques, explains and demonstrates technology and equipment capabilities, operations, limitations and outcomes. 8) Supervision of other students and staff.  Maintenance and organization of laboratory and laboratory samples within research space. 9) Participate and present in professional meetings at local, regional and national poultry and poultry diagnostics meeting. 10) Assists with publication writing and developing grants. 

Required Minimum Qualifications:

PhD in poultry medicine or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in molecular diagnostics development and validation, clinical diagnostic experience, viruses, microbiology, phylogeny and sequence typing.
• Documented expertise via peer-reviewed publications.
