Genentech

Job Description

The Position

We have an opening for a talented Postdoctoral Fellow to join the laboratory of Dr. Heinrich Jasper in the Department of Regenerative Medicine at Genentech. The Jasper lab is focused on stem cell biology and aging, with research programs focused on mechanisms of age-related stem cell dysfunction, using Drosophila and vertebrate model systems.

Recent studies explore the systemic effects of stem cell dysfunction (Cai et al., Nature 2021), intrinsic age-related changes impacting stem cell function (Haller et al., Cell Stem Cell 2017; Tauc et al., eLife 2021; Morris et al., Cell Reports 2020), and rejuvenating interventions through reprogramming and senolysis (Browder et al., Nature Aging 2022).  The position offers a terrific opportunity to work in this exciting new field, supported by a uniquely collaborative community of scientists dedicated to understanding regenerative processes, their decline in aging and disease, as well as strategies for intervention to improve their efficiency.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates with a proven track record of excellence in either Stem Cell Biology, Reprogramming, Cell Biology or Molecular Biology with skills that could be applied to a scientific problem of interest to the post-doc and the laboratory. Experience in Drosophila genetics, and excitement in using the Drosophila model to explore fundamental questions of stem cell biology is of particular interest to us. The successful candidate will have a strong scientific background that could include: cell and molecular biology, genetics, single cell RNA-Seq and other single cell technologies, proteomics, microscopy, in vivo s tudies, and/or Drosophila genetics.

Qualified candidates must also have advanced at least one key research project as evidenced by a first author paper published or accepted in a leading peer-reviewed journal. Most importantly, the successful candidate will be someone who is highly motivated to ask questions of exceptional importance and to work in a collaborative but independent fashion.  Although the position will be primarily focused on addressing problems of basic science, these can be problems derived from an investigation of disease or therapeutic mechanisms.

This position is eligible for relocation benefits.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $64,800 and $120,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.  This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
