Summary of Job Duties:

The Center of Excellence for Poultry Science is seeking applicants for a new faculty and extension specialist position to work with current faculty and stakeholders in poultry processing and regulation, and food safety in Arkansas. The poultry industry is a vital segment of the Arkansas economy with currently over 6000 farms in the state and growth continuing in the Northeast (NE) and Southwest (SW) areas of the state and 87 poultry processing facilities. The Arkansas poultry industry has broiler, layer, turkey, and gamebird segments as well as a diverse allied industry supporting all facets of commercial poultry production and processing.
Extension: Responsibilities for this position will include development and implementation of science-based educational outreach programs to increase producer knowledge and understanding of poultry processing practices, processing regulation and food safety. The educational outreach will be delivered using both traditional and digital platforms, and outcome assessments will be developed. The successful candidate will be expected to provide state and regional leadership in poultry processing and food safety through interactions/collaborations with industry personnel, governmental agencies, county-based extension agents, extension specialists, and research-oriented faculty in poultry science, food science, and related disciplines.
Research: Responsibilities include developing and applying research techniques related to poultry processing, processing regulation and food safety. Moreover, this individual would be expected to garner national grant funding and form collaborations with researchers and stakeholders. This applied research program would complement the individual’s extension program allowing direct interaction with commercial poultry growers and integrators to solve current management-related issues.
Teaching: Responsibilities include teaching, advising, and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. The successful candidate will be expected to teach one departmental poultry science production course per year, and potentially contribute to other departmental courses. In addition, the successful candidate will direct graduate students pursuing an online Master of Science in Food Safety degree. Opportunities exist to interact with fellow research scientists and extension specialists through participation in various interdepartmental programs. The person occupying this position would be expected to make programmatic contributions to the UADA Center for Food Safety, located in the Milo J. Shult Agricultural Research and Extension Center.
