POSITION SUMMARY

The Career Connected Learning Specialist focuses on program coordination including outreach and engagement efforts to support career connected learning (CCL) for K-12 and post-secondary students throughout Snohomish County. CCL opportunities include career awareness, career exploration, career prep, and financial aid. This position works with the STEM Network Director, Career Connect Washington colleagues, and EASC staff to bridge business and education by engaging a variety of stakeholders to promote opportunities, recruit mentor career speakers, and build partnerships with education, business, and community members. This position and work plan are under the direction of the Snohomish STEM Network Director and regularly engages with EASC staff.

Regular travel throughout Snohomish County and the region is required.

This position is grant funded and employment beyond June 2025 is dependent upon continuing grant funding.

 

WORK SCHEDULE

Monday – Friday daytime office hours are standard with occasional events in the evenings and on weekends.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Career Connected Learning Specialist has primary responsibility, but not limited to:

  • Represent the Snohomish STEM Network and Economic Alliance Snohomish County through outreach and engagement efforts.
  • Work as a part of the Snohomish STEM Network and Career Connect Washington Northwest (CCW NW) team to develop, coordinate and implement career connected learning and financial aid events for students throughout Snohomish County.
  • Collaborate to cultivate and maintain relationships with schools, higher-education, community-based organizations, and businesses in support of career connected programming.
  • Utilize best practices to implement and lead community and school-based career exploration events and financial aid programming.
  • Coordinate outreach to business and industry stakeholders recruiting for career connected learning (CCL) opportunities including career speakers, job site tours, job shadowing, mentoring, internships, etc.
  • Develop and support outreach events around skilled trades and registered apprenticeship programs.
  • Engage and recruit districts, schools, teachers, and community-based organizations to initiate and implement CCL programming, financial aid supports, and early learning resources.
  • Collaborate on various projects with postsecondary learning institutions (including colleges, universities, and apprenticeship programs), vendors, consultants, and contractors.
  • Partner with other EASC & CCW NW programs to integrate opportunities for participation and program growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of student participation, equitable student access to careers, business participation, and other required data entry or statistics.
  • Implement mechanisms to constantly evaluate programs, identify community needs, and develop new programs when needed.
  • Prepare presentations, special reports, and/or documents for CCL and financial aid programs, outreach, and events.
  • Stay up to date on local workforce trends and labor market data.
  • Provide direction and oversight to program volunteers and career mentor speakers.
  • Contribute to an organizational culture of teamwork, support, engagement, and empowerment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that fit within the responsibilities and skill level of this position.

  • Knowledge of K-12 and postsecondary education systems.
  • Skill in communicating effectively with businesses, educators, and community members.
  • Ability to lead, present, and speak on behalf of Snohomish STEM Network and CCW NW.
  • Ability to collaborate and work with businesses and community-based organizations in shared programming.
  • Ability to professionally communicate and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work flexibly with diverse individuals and/or groups in a wide variety of circumstances.
  • Ability to analyze issues, problem solve, and create action plans independently and with a team.
  • Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible, working occasional evenings and/or weekends.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships.

  • (Not Required) Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking Spanish.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. At least 3 years of related experience supporting programs, business outreach, and community collaboration is required. Experience coordinating programs, events, and projects with multiple stakeholders required. Experience working in an educational setting and/or experience building partnerships with businesses and workforce partners highly desired. WSP/FBI criminal history background clearance required. Valid Washington State driver’s license and proof of liability insurance required.

MULTILINGUAL ALLOWANCE

A five percent (5%) multilingual allowance is awarded to an employee whose current responsibilities does not require the regular use of a language besides English, but the employee uses additional languages on the job to support requested work. Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking the language(s) besides English to qualify for this allowance.

Economic Alliance Snohomish County (EASC) is a non-profit organization serving as a combined economic development organization and countywide chamber of commerce committed to growing and nurturing a vital regional economy that is globally competitive. As such, it generates and advocates for smart economic policy and strategies, grow living wage jobs, and expand the economy through business expansion and attraction. EASC also hosts business services from the SBA (Small Business Administration) and other federal and state agencies to deliver business services to local businesses.

The Snohomish STEM Network, founded in 2013, is part of the EASC team and brings together cross-sector partnerships and leaders to support future workforce talent, education, and a strong cradle-to-career network preparing students for in-demand, high-paying jobs in Snohomish County. Snohomish STEM and our partners work together to improve equitable access for all students with a unified goal to strengthen and develop career connected learning opportunities in Snohomish County. The Snohomish STEM Network Director also serves as the Co-Director for the Career Connect Washington Northwest Regional Network (CCW NW), which includes Snohomish, Skagit, Whatcom, Island, and San Juan counties. Snohomish STEM and CCW NW collaborate regularly on career connected learning initiatives and programs.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Typical business office conditions generally prevail. The noise level is usually low to moderate. Employee will be working in a cubicle, enclosed office, or open area. The position will be hybrid, working regularly in the office and occasionally remote and or in the field. Adequate manual and finger dexterity, hearing, speech, and vision are necessary to perform the essential functions of this position. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

SAFETY RESPONSIBILITY

Duties shall include observing all organization health, safety, and environmental rules, ensuring that employees are provided with full information on area-specific safety issues, all unique hazards are identified, and employees are provided with the proper equipment to carry out their job in a safe manner.
