Position Summary
This position will serve as a member of Bernard Becker Medical Library’s Research Services division, focusing primarily on education and support relating to data management and sharing. This position will report to the Associate Director of Research Services.
Bernard Becker medical library’s research services division provides a broad range of educational programs and services in support of the research activities of the School of Medicine’s faculty, staff, and students. Specifically, the division provides introductory training in biomedical research computing, delivers educational offerings and services in the areas of data management and sharing, and supports awareness, access, and training on a variety of software tools for biomedical data analysis and visualization. In addition, the division provides a host of customized programs, services, and expertise to assist faculty, investigators, and students in navigating the complex and ever-changing research publishing landscape with support around publishing options, public access mandates, copyright, author rights, assessment of research impact, and the dissemination of research findings. In these capacities, the research services division plays a key role in supporting the medical school’s research mission.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support faculty, staff, and students in the identification of repositories suitable for sharing their data with the broader public, providing assistance with data submission requirements, policies and procedures when needed.
  • Aid researchers in the formation and implementation of data management and sharing plans that meet funder requirements.
  • Serve as a campus resource for information and assistance related to data storage, retention, access, stewardship and ownership.
  • Stay abreast of evolving data management and sharing requirements from publishers and funding agencies and assist researchers as they navigate these changes.
  • Support researchers wanting to access shared data for further analysis, providing assistance with data reuse guidelines and parameters when needed.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with research groups to identify and monitor evolving areas of interest and need related to data management and sharing.
  • Stay abreast of national and international trends in research data practices.
  • Serve as a bridge to the more extensive resources and services available from the Institute for Informatics, Data Science & Biostatistics.
  • Participate in library-wide initiatives, programs, and professional development activities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with data management and sharing requirements of publishers and funding agencies.
  • Experience writing and implementing data management and sharing plans.
  • Familiarity with biomedical data repositories and experience with data curation, sharing and reuse.
  • Appreciation for role of metadata and demonstrated experience with technical side of data management and sharing.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, and commitment to professional development.
  • Experience in classroom teaching and/or development of training materials.
  • Strong user-focused public service orientation.


Required Qualifications

Ph.D. with at least three years of postdoctoral experience in genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field, and experience in a laboratory or other research setting.

Salary Range
$54,100.00 - $98,100.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
