About the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics

About the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (https://science.du.edu/chemistry) offers undergraduate degrees in chemistry, biochemistry and environmental chemistry and graduate degrees with specialization in analytical, biophysical, environmental, and organic chemistry and biochemistry.

About the Michel Lab

The Michel Lab is located in the Department of Chemistry & Biochemistry at the University of Denver. The Michel Lab uses techniques of organic and organometallic synthesis, catalysis, absorbance and fluorescence spectroscopy, and confocal microscopy for live cell imaging. The lab is highly interdisciplinary, collaborative, and is an inclusive environment.

Position Summary

The Michel lab is seeking to hire a new postdoctoral fellow to work on developing new strategies for the molecular detection of biologically relevant small molecules using transition metal-based chemistry. Candidates interested in exploring organometallic approaches for chemical biology applications should apply. Candidates with backgrounds in the following areas are encouraged to apply:

Essential Functions

• Performing independent research. Analyzing and interpreting research results.
• Capable and willing to work with, train, and mentor undergraduate and graduate researchers.
• Responsible for a set of lab duties designed to facilitate research.
• Assisting with paper and grant writing work.
• Fostering an inclusive laboratory environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Proficient in spoken and written English.
• Knowledgeable in organic chemistry, polymer chemistry, catalysis and related areas.
• Laboratory research experience.

Required Qualifications

• Proficient in spoken and written English.
• PhD degree in organic chemistry, chemical biology, catalysis, organometallic chemistry or related areas.
• Knowledgeable in organic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, catalysis, chemical biology and related areas.
• Laboratory research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge in organometallic synthesis and fluorophore synthesis

Salary Grade Number:

The salary grade for the position is 8.

Salary Range:

The salary range for this position is $54,840 - $60,000.
