Summary

The Senior Staff Scientist will perform independent research on the pediatric brain tumor medulloblastoma. The scientist will have extensive experience with cell culture, animal handling, and wet lab techniques including, but not limited to, CUT&RUN, co-immunopreciptiation, ChIP, western blotting, PCR and immunohistochemistry. The scientist will be able to guide and supervise the work of other staff and trainees in the lab. The ideal candidate must have a solid knowledge of the biological principles driving medulloblastoma, and proven experience with implementation of stem cell assays and associated treatments with small molecule inhibitors, siRNAs etc.

Job Duties
  • Integrate results from cell culture and molecular experiments to further generate hypotheses that will be tested functionally using a variety of assays. For instance, the scientist may discover an important role for a gene or spliced variant, and will follow up with functional experiments that will test whether altering that gene variant has any effects on cancer cell phenotypes both in a dish and in animal models.
  • Develop and optimize protocols for the lab and implement new technologies for specific research projects. For example, the scientist will optimize CUT&RUN to test genome wide distribution of epigenetic marks following knockdown of a gene or treatment with a particular antisense oligo.
  • Train others in the lab on these new technologies and create written protocols for lab manuals.
  • Work extensively on manuscript/grant drafts, figures and cover letters for submission to journals.
  • Edit drafts of papers/reports coming from less experienced trainees.
  • Review papers and grants for journals and funding organizations as applicable.
  • Represent the lab at national and international scientific meetings.
  • Assist with grant and manuscript writing as well as oversee the molecular and cell culture division of the lab.
  • Provide supervision of daily activities by trainees (graduate students, postdoctoral fellows) and staff (lab technicians).
  • Participate with interviewing of potential trainees and recruits to the lab.
